The beginning · 2022
A personal passion.
A shared interest.
Woody Allen Films began in 2022 with a straightforward idea: share a love of the films with other people who enjoyed them. Created by Deep Space Marketing’s founder, Guy, it is an independent, founder-owned project rather than a client account.
Starting with Facebook and Instagram, Guy posted photographs almost daily. There was no fully developed visual identity at the beginning. That evolved as fans from around the world started following, responding and returning.
Consistency before scale
Within a few months, the audience reached 10,000 followers. For something that had started as a personal hobby, without any advertising spend, it was an unexpected milestone.
An early breakthrough came with an Instagram reel featuring Woody Allen’s appearance at the 2002 Oscars, paying tribute to New York’s films following 9/11. It attracted more than 150,000 views. But the work behind the account continued beyond individual successful posts: showing up consistently and sharing material that mattered to film fans.
Collaboration with a purpose
Personal outreach led to Alec Baldwin recording two videos for the channel about his favourite Woody Allen films. Both were unpaid collaborations.
For Guy, these contributions helped strengthen the account’s credibility and gave followers something distinctive: a perspective from an actor who had worked with the director.

Polls, questions and discussions gave followers opportunities to contribute their own opinions. Subscriptions offered more content for particularly enthusiastic fans.
The project expanded to Threads, YouTube and a dedicated website. The purpose remained the same: a positive, interesting place to discuss Woody Allen’s films, books and music.
Learning what to keep, and what to change
Not every experiment found its audience. A Medium blog did not attract the readership Guy had hoped for. The work still had value: some of those posts became the starting point for fresh articles when the Woody Allen Films website launched in 2026.
Rather than treating every platform as essential, the approach developed around where the audience responded and what served the project’s objectives.
The result
A global audience.
Built without advertising.
The combined audience passed 200,000 after approximately three years. By October 2026, the reported figures were:
Approximately 268,200 combined followers and subscribers, with no money spent on advertising.
These are platform totals, not a count of unique individuals.
The primary objective remains non-commercial: maintaining a welcoming community for fans. Subscriptions and the Amazon affiliate store play a supporting role, helping pay for the website’s maintenance.
What this means for your brand
Know your audience.
Build around your objectives.
This project demonstrates the value of knowing your subject, publishing consistently, inviting participation and pursuing relevant collaborations. It also shows why success needs to be measured against the purpose of the project, rather than follower numbers alone.
For Deep Space Marketing, those principles inform an approach built around your audience, your objectives and the platforms that make sense for your business.
